in

Montreal!

After more than 30 years, CLFMI’s Summer Meeting returns to Eastern Canada, and there is no more exciting, interesting, and unique destination in Eastern Canada than the beautiful city of Montreal. CLFMI members will be treated to a taste of Europe in this cosmopolitan city where French is the first language, and friendship and hospitality are a way of life.

Our CLFMI Canadian members are helping us line up a terrific program of important industry and economic speakers, as well as some special activities to give attendees the best possible meeting experience. Here is the information you need to register for the meeting, reserve your sleeping room at our amazing host hotel, and to be prepared to visit Canada in the most stress-free way.

The Location

Montreal was rated as the third-best destination city in the world (just behind Paris!) by Lonely Planet. In their review, they noted “Montreal’s all-season calendar of festivals and arts events, changing neighborhoods packed with diverse cuisine, au courant galleries and quirky shops are among the many reasons it has long been one of Canada’s coolest destinations. But this year, with new museums, revamped attractions, an ever-vibrant restaurant scene and added transport options making it even easier to reach, this metropolitan region is ready for its closeup.”

Getting There

Montreal is served by the Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport, one of the major airports in North America. It is served by most major U.S. airlines from more than 20 U.S. cities, along with hundreds of flights per day on Canadian Airlines and its affiliates. The Sofitel is only @ 25 minutes from the airport, so no rental car is necessary for our event. There are taxis and Ubers, etc. readily available outside of baggage claim.

Note: This is the 2nd of many reminders that in order to enter Canada you MUST have a current U.S. (or other country) passport. Please check now to be sure your passport is current, and the expiration date does not overlap with our meeting dates.

Upon entering Trudeau you will  be guided to the customs/arrival pavilion where they supply dozens of self-serve entry stations.

It is not going to be this empty when you get there, of course, but you can see they have lots of arrival stations.

The Host Hotel:

In keeping with the French-Canadian location, CLFMI’s host hotel is the Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile. Located in the heart of the city, this jewel in the worldwide Sofitel family of hotels offers nearby attractions, parks, upscale shops and restaurants, and the newest luxury accommodations.

Transportation

The Sofitel is a short ride (25 minutes) from the airport. If you arrive during busy/rush hours, however, traffic can be extremely heavy. Taxis can use the express lanes during those times, Uber, Lyft, etc. cannot.

Meeting Attire

Business casual is the dress code for all business meetings at the Summer Meeting. Dress for the Thursday luncheon cruise is casual. You should wear comfortable walking shoes and appropriate attire for the Old Town tour.
